Filer.pk exists to make tax in Pakistan something an ordinary person can actually get right. That comes in two parts: everything on this site is free and always will be, and for the work that a guide cannot do for you, we build tools — the newest of which is a full filing workspace at services.filer.pk.
A tax awareness guide, free to use
Most people are not avoiding tax. They simply do not know what the Active Taxpayers List is, what it costs to be off it, or where to begin. So the core of this site is a plain-language guide to being a filer in Pakistan — no sign-up, no email address, nothing stored.
- What is a filer? — the Active Taxpayers List, the three statuses, and what being off the list costs on a real transaction.
- How to become a filer — registering with the FBR and getting an NTN through the IRIS portal.
- Benefits of being a filer — the lower withholding rates, item by item.
- Definitions — the terminology you will meet while filing.
- Guides and news — walkthroughs and what has actually changed this year.
Calculators that show their working
Four of them, all free and all showing the rate table they used and the date those rates were last checked against an FBR source. A tax figure you cannot check is not worth much.
- Income tax calculator — salary tax for any year from 2019 to 2027, with the slab-by-slab breakdown.
- What non-filer status costs you — filer, late filer and non-filer withholding on your own figures, from the FBR rate card.
- Late filing penalty calculator — the section 182 penalty and the section 182A restoration surcharge, which are two different things.
- Sales tax (GST) calculator — add or remove sales tax, federal on goods and provincial on services.
All four are on the tools page.
services.filer.pk — your bank statements, reconciled to the rupee
A calculator answers one question. A return needs a year of transactions sorted out, and that is where people give up. services.filer.pk is the workspace we built for exactly that job, and it is open now.
- Import your statements. They are parsed, every transaction is categorised, and the import is checked before anything is written.
- The balance chain has to hold. Every statement’s closing balance must equal the next one’s opening balance. When every link holds, nothing was dropped and nothing was counted twice — and if the chain breaks, the app tells you, rather than the tax office telling you later.
- Answer only what the engine would not guess. It proposes a category for every row and leaves the genuinely ambiguous ones to you, instead of quietly deciding.
- Reconcile to zero, then export. The year closes to zero and produces the IRIS worksheet.
A tax year is a sealed container: nothing crosses between years, because the FBR revises the forms nearly every year. It is free to start, and there are more calculators over there too that run entirely in your own browser.
Working with a tax lawyer — coming next
The part we are building now is the handover. Getting your year reconciled is valuable on its own, but most people still want a professional to file it — and today that means handing over a carrier bag of statements and hoping.
So services.filer.pk will offer two routes through the same ledger:
- Self-prepare. You do the work and keep control. This route works today.
- Hand it over. Get the year to a good state, then hand it to a verified tax lawyer. You both look at the same ledger, documents are shared one at a time, and their access ends when the engagement does.
The mechanism is built and the lawyer directory is live. What it does not have yet is lawyers — we are verifying the first practices now, so the listing will read as empty for a little while. We would rather show you an honest empty directory than a padded one.
If you are a tax lawyer
We are looking for practices to list. What is in it for you is the shape of the work: a verified listing in the public directory, a multi-client workspace, and clients who arrive with a year that already balances instead of a shoebox in March. If that is of interest, see the directory or get in touch with us directly.
Other systems we build
Filer.pk is one of several systems built by Offsetup. The other two solve a different problem for a different reader, and both are working software rather than plans:
- BuildingSetup — building management: units, owners and tenants, agreements and their documents, visitors and deliveries, facility bookings, complaints and maintenance work orders, parking, billing, and the building’s own staff and payroll.
- InternalPayroll — monthly payroll and the office administration around it: dated salary structures, permanent payslips, attendance, recruitment, employee and client portals, and QR-verified experience letters.
