Tax news and FBR announcements from Pakistan, written for people who have to act on them rather than for people who follow tax policy.
Most tax news is reported as an announcement and left there. What is usually missing is the part that matters to a taxpayer: whether this changes anything you have to do, by when, and whether it applies to you at all. Every item here tries to answer that, and says plainly when the answer is “nothing changes for most people”.
We cover changes that reach ordinary filers — Finance Act measures that alter slabs, rates or surcharges; deadlines and extensions; changes to the return form and to IRIS; and the rules around the Active Taxpayers List. Where a story is really about tax administration rather than about anything you can act on, we leave it to the newspapers.
Each item carries the date it was published and the sources it was written from, so you can see how current it is and check it yourself. Rates and thresholds move, sometimes mid-year, and a piece written in July may not describe the position in December. For explanatory articles that are kept up to date rather than pinned to a moment, see the blog; to work out your own figures, see the calculators.
